WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY AT FIRE GLASS LIKE FOR YOU?
First thing is clearing any overnight admin: paperwork, reports, and anything that’s landed and needs actioning, so nothing gets left hanging around. Then it’s into customer mode – handling calls, booking visits, and getting the diary organised so the day actually makes sense instead of chaos pretending to be a schedule.
A big chunk of the day is keeping on top of quotes and following them up. Not just sending them out and hoping for the best – actually chasing, updating, and making sure nothing goes cold.
Alongside that, there’s supporting customers wherever possible and making sure they’re getting value from Fire Glass. It’s not just “sell and forget”– it’s checking in, solving problems, and making sure the branch is performing well from the customer’s perspective.
So in short: admin first, customers all day, quotes constantly, and a lot of keeping things moving so nothing stalls. Think organised chaos – but controlled.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
What I enjoy most is being out on the road meeting customers face to face and promoting the full range of Fire Glass products. I also like the challenge of finding solutions – if something isn’t working, I’ll look for alternative ways to get the customer what they need.
There’s a real sense of satisfaction when a job comes together, and a customer calls to say thank you for helping get it over the line.
I also find it rewarding when customers reach out with questions or issues, and I’m able to help them quickly and effectively.
WHAT PARTS OF YOUR JOB DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING?
One of the main challenges is ensuring consistency in how in-house sales are managed across different areas. Improving this could help reduce customer costs and potentially increase overall sales from existing clients.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS SEEKING THE SAME LINE OF WORK?
Take time to really understand the products and services offered so you can confidently support customers and provide the right solutions.
Be honest and clear about your intentions and approach to the role from the beginning.
Always treat customers and colleagues with respect—strong relationships make a big difference in this line of work.
Most importantly, consistently promote the company in a positive, professional way, both in person and externally.
WHAT DO YOU DO OUTSIDE OF WORK?
Outside of work, I spend most of my time with family and friends. I enjoy weekend trips away and family holidays throughout the year.
A lot of my time is also taken up supporting my children at their various competitions and activities.
I follow my football team and occasionally manage to get tickets to attend live games.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE BAND/ALBUM?
U2 - Boy and The Joshua Tree
FAVOURITE PLACE TO EAT AND WHAT?
The Grill & Banter – I like their Lasagne.
WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL MOTTO?
Always believe in yourself in life. And when driving, don't worry about what you do; worry about what others do.
