The solar panels installed at Fire Glass Scotland’s factory are not ordinary; they are 262 Monocrystalline Photovoltaic (PV) panels renowned for their ultra-efficiency in converting sunlight into electricity. With a maximum output of 435 watts each, these panels can revolutionise the factory’s energy landscape.
Understanding the Mechanics
PV panels work by harnessing the sun’s photons, which strike the top layer of the solar panel. This interaction prompts electrons to move through the panel, generating Direct Current (DC) electricity. Subsequently, using an inverter, this DC electricity is converted into Alternating Current (AC) electricity, suitable for powering residential and commercial spaces.
Impressive Capacity and Expectations
The estimated production capacity of Fire Glass Scotland’s solar panels is impressive. Each panel has the potential to produce between 1.2 to 3 kWh (kilowatt-hours) of electricity per day, leading to a total daily output ranging from 314 to 786 kWh. This amounts to a staggering 82,268 kWh annually, based on conservative estimates.
To put these figures into perspective, the energy harvested from these solar panels is sufficient to power seven large family homes for an entire year. What’s remarkable is that this energy is being directly fed back into the factory, bolstering its operations with clean and sustainable power.
Environmental Impact
Fire Glass Scotland’s embrace of solar energy aligns perfectly with Scotland’s clean energy network, which boasts impressively low carbon emissions of only 27g per kWh. Even at these low emission levels, the clean energy generated by the factory’s solar panels has the potential to offset approximately four tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, a significant contribution to mitigating climate change.
