Record-Breaking Run for Luke
Nov
2021

Luke Abercrombie, Maintenance Engineer, successfully competed in a Guinness World Record attempt on the 19th of September. Large groups of runners took part in the most 10km runs recorded within 24 hours. Luke was able to record his 10km run, using a Garmin Fenix 6s pro watch which is a verified tracker.

Luke has been part of  Fire Glass for just over 16 months, where he started as a glass cutter on the vertical saw. His current role, which he applied for internally, is Maintenance Engineer. This involves Luke maintaining factory machines at all Fire Glass UK branches. Luke said, “I have always been a practical person, and this helped me achieve and complete the high targets set by the production manager when I was a glass operative. Studying motorsport mechanics and having an HND in Mechanical Engineering seemed a natural choice to develop my skills and progress within the company. My role involves going around to all branches across the UK, ensuring machines are in good working order to keep production at its highest”.

Luke is an excellent part of team Fire Glass whose skill set has allowed him to grow with the company naturally. Steve Edwards said “Luke has shown great enthusiasm in his new role. Taking on the tasks of repairing machines, setting up a database of the group machinery stock, showing downtime lost by breakdowns and also saving by carrying out the work ourselves. Always approachable, Luke is growing in the role, gaining more confidence talking to suppliers making his own relationships with them. It is looking like a bright future for Luke.

Outside of work, Luke, who is kept on his toes by his two boys, is an avid car enthusiast whose cars have featured in many performance magazines. His hobbies include collecting coins, silver bullion and watches. He has many years of experience in sports, especially kickboxing and discovered an interest in running and offroad running. He recently completed the Wolf Run challenge and plans to run 5km a day for a month.
