RAISING STANDARDS
Apr
2023

Fire Glass Installations recently worked on a refurbishment at a school in London. The early Victorian building, built in 1865, didn’t come without its own logistical problems, but we managed to raise the standards.

We provided and glazed nine Pyrobel 25EG panels which were butt-jointed within three large timber screens. Each glass panel was 880 x 2424 mm, weighed 150kg and gave a barrier and line support of 1.5kn.

Access to the central London school was tight for such huge glass panels, so we had to create a site-lifting strategy which included the glass being transported to the site on liftable stillages, allowing for a crane to lift the glass over the top of the building, which then had to be lowered into a 5-metre drop.

Trollies were then wheeled into position, and a small jib crane and sucker lifted the
glass into the timber frames.

With an unusually hard-to-access site, it gave the Installation team great pride that they could get the glass in place and install it with little difficulty.
